Don't use tape to fix cracks in plaster.
It seems everywhere we go to patch plaster there is tape peeling. Here we pulled off the tape and filled in the gap with molding plaster and lime.
These tape gaps can also be filled with vinyl spackle, if someone isn't used to working with plaster. Drywall mud doesn't work.
Ceilings fixed this way look humpy and bumpy when the sunlight hits. This is due to a big hump of drywall mud over the tape. This mud doesn't permanently bond to plaster, which is slick and is subject to water condensation. The plastic mesh tape also peels off easily.
The taping may last 5 years if you are lucky. There are other methods of filling cracks. This is the worst.
I need to tell the blind man he is walking toward the ditch when he tapes cracks.
