Water jumps over the gutter helmet and floods the basement below.

The straight arrow shows a dent in the gutter. This dent causes a torrent of water that runs down to the window sill on the first floor, and leaks into the house.

The roof is a flat roof angled with a pitch from the front of the house to the back.

The reason for the gutter helmet is to keep the leaves out of the gutter. In this case, it keeps the water out of the gutter. The solution for the house flooding is to cut off the gutter guard, which does more harm than good.

There are no trees nearby, so I don't what the gutter helmets are there for.
