Flashing over details ?

Hi RTBullard... I asked you about tips on making a broad even wall surface on the brown coat several months ago. I have to say thanks again for your site, it almost seems like you are as good at sharing your trade secrets as you are at the trade it self... My question: Do you have to flash around ornamental wall protrusions like a horizontal band between floors, or ornamental window stuff? It seems like wherever a wall comes 'out' , it is an opportunity for water to collect. Say, at the the stone ledge, or something... do you need to flash in these places?

Chimney bands are pitched at the top for water to run off in Virginia

The tops of projections and details like these chimney bands are angled or pitched at a slope. This prevents water from collecting and penetrating the stucco.

This is an excellent question.

It is difficult or not really practical to put flashing over every single projection. The flashing would need to go under the stucco, meaning it would to be done before the stucco.

A lot of failure of old stucco, EIFS and one coat stucco occurs because the projections are level on top, and not angled down.

Thanks so much for visiting my site.
